      Virtual Clay Shenanigans (DIGITAL)

Join us for a five week virtual class all about clay! Two projects are planned for you specifically to learn the basics of clay construction. We will start out with a happy little owl that will function as a planter or a votive, your choice. The second project will be jewelry holder or a serving dish that will reinforce the hand building skills we will learn about. We will have plenty of time for questions and answers and learning about each other and clay! Both projects will be fired and glazed and be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after the final class.

Clay materials, tools, and glaze will be included in registration and available for pick up the week prior to class beginning. Students will receive an email when they are ready.

      WHAT YOU NEED:

A computer or device with a webcam and microphone.
Access to the internet or wi-fi.
A small bowl for a clay slip. A recycled yogurt cup or something similar and a plastic bag that you can put it in to keep it wet.
A surface: A flat piece of wood, a plate, cookie sheet, cutting board, etc.
Paper, newspaper, or even junk mail–to keep the clay from sticking.
An old towel to keep your hands clean.
A jar or cup of water.
      A sharpened pencil.
Plastic to cover your project from week to week. Dry cleaning bags, a trash bag, grocery bag or any sheet of plastic big enough to cover your project fully, top to bottom.
SAFETY is always important. When working with clay, our biggest safety concern is dust! So please think about and choose a location in your home that can be cleaned up easily. If you have a drop cloth or a tarp you can cover the floor of your work area with that. A good work location would be a covered porch or garage area. Silica dust isn’t good for our lungs so it’s important to clean up after each class and always clean with a wet sponge or cloth. Clay dust from dried clay is what we are trying to avoid. Any dried pieces go in the trash and surfaces are wiped down with a wet sponge.

      Cost: 115.00
